  41. The AMSAT PBBS will be changing frequency and modes starting April
  42. 15th at 1600 UTC. The AMSAT PBBS will be on a Mark freqeuncy of 14.079,
  43. that's (14.181.1 AFSK LSB), using the mode Pactor with the callsign WT0N.
  44. The new schedule will be as follows: Monday THRU Saturday from 1600 UTC
  45. until 2300 UTC on a Mark freqeuncy of 14.079. From 2330 UTC until 0400 UTC
  46. on a Mark freqeuncy of 7.073.5 that's (7.075.6 AFSK LSB), using the Mode
  47. Pactor. These changes have been made to better serve AMSAT users with better
  48. coverage and use of a mode that many of the users have expressed an interest
  49. in. If anyone would like to use the Mode G-TOR, please let me know and I
  50. can see about setting up a schedule for G-TOR users. Please send any
  51. comments or suggestions to one of the following:

  80. I use a Kantronics KPC-3 TNC with Hayes' Smartcom II for the Mac on a
  81. Quadra 660AV.  I have also heard that the Savant comm software is nice.

  102. just a plain old communications program. There are some specialized
  103. communications programs of which Savant is one that work especially well with
  104. the Mac on packet.

  106. If you are savy enough to get on the "networking" version of packet... you
  107. might want to try NET/Mac. There are a number of us that have converted soley
  108. to that mode over the ax.25 PBBS side!

  110. You can find a demo version of Savant on the net as well as full up working
  111. NET/Mac and accompanying software tools to get on with it.

  131. Kantronics has excellent packet software for the Macintosh (I wrote it). 
  132. It's called HostMaster for the Macintosh and should be available from
  133. most ham radio outlets or directly from Kantronics.  You may also order
  134. it directly from me for $69.95, including shipping.  Feel free to contact
  135. me for further info.

  137. Please note:  HostMaster for the Macintosh is for Kantronics tncs only
  138. (KAM, KPC-3, DE, etc).   It does not work with AEA, MFJ, or other tncs
  139. (sorry).

  177. I've been working with the DOC on a project to use digital radio in disaster
  178. situations to connect with the Internet via RF links to router stations with
  179. satellite dishes scattered around the territory. We've demonstrated the
  180. effectiveness of this system to "the powers that be", although they raised
  181. the question of security of the data stream between the remote site (the
  182. on-scene packet station), and the dish. This link would be made on
  183. pre-determined "commercial" frequencies, so the question arose as to what
  184. encryption schemes there were to bolster security of information passing
  185. over the air... Does any such scheme currently exist, and if so, where would
  186. one find it and how good is it?.. Any information would be of great
  187. assistance...

  330.      You probably need the TNC to keep up the DSR signal... Most things don't 
  331. care, but a lot of terminals actually follow some of those data signals that 
  332. are often ignored on PCs, etc... you'll prolly need to change DSR, maybe DTR, 
  333. CTS and RTS, and if your TNC is capable maybe turn on XON/XOFF.  I don't know 
  334. how... I'd love to get into packet but haven't found a TNC, this advice is all 
  335. from using modems and getting them to work, so don't ask for specific commands 
  336. or anything...  8-)
